@Joe Pertowski, Yes, during a heavy rain you will likely have a problem with it backing up since the hose is so small. Not a lot you can do if you want to use this device. Maybe hook up two of them to the downspout.

two possible problems/questions

- I watched the installation of the diverter and it looks pretty simple but I am concerned that that in thunderstorms, etc when there is heavy rain the diverter will not work properly and it will back up
and up. Is this a common occurance?
- the second concern is the spigot being connected to something...a
hose I assume with a control at the end. What I want to use the water for is an area two levels down and probably 100 ft away from the barrels. Seems like a major problem.

@Margaret Clancy, The barrel is fine if you like that look, and those small accessory parts are cheap to replace so if you like the look, buy it.

I like the look of the Mayne 40 Gallon Plastic Madison Rain Barrel (http://www.rainbarrelsource.com/rain-barrels/rain-barrels/madison40gallonwhiterainbarrel1.cfm) but the reviews are not great, esp. concerning the metal connector to the 2 hoses. What's your opinion of this rain barrel?

Thanks
